An integral component of the Papua New Guinea Government’s industrial development strategy is the promotion of investment in Papua New Guinea. The Investment Promotion Authority, established by an Act of Parliament in 1992, is responsible for this activity. Its focus is centered on attracting new investors to thecountry as well as encouraging existing investors, both foreign and domestic, to expand their investment.

Papua New Guinea, located on the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and 160 kilometers north of Australia, is rich in natural resources. Ranging from oil, gas and gold to fish, forests, coffee and spices, and much, much more, there is great investment potential.

 

Papua New Guinea comprises both the mainland and some 600 offshore islands and has a total land area of 470,000 square kilometers. PNG’s population currently stands at 5.1 million people with around 15 percent of the population living in the 10 major urban areas.


PNG has a moderate tropical climate with high levels of seasonal rainfall.

IPA relocation notice

The Investment Promotion Authority wishes to advise its valued clients and the general public that the organization will be undergoing an office relocation exercise to its new office at Lawes Road, Konedobu at the end of May 2010.


This is to consolidate all our services in one location for the benefit of our valued customers.
During this period, clients should expect a minimized level of service, as each respective office prepare to relocate.

 

We have taken steps to ensure that the exercise does not disrupt vital services delivered from the 4th Floor, Monian Tower, and such other services such as registry, lodgments including foreign certification and intellectual property services are maintained during this transition period.
 

However, certain functions such as facilitation and promotion may be scaled down.

Fisheries Code: 259 - The project has been the initiated of the villagers to develop their local resources as they have seen the immense potential for marine resources to be developed in their area. The area as known for many marine resources, typical of many coastal systems. As such the local landowners, to attract developments into governing the development of fisheries project in the development of fisheries project in the country. This was followed by technical advice and information on prawn farming and later, site assessment was carried out by one of its officers. During the assessment of the technical officer and several landowners went to the site and physical surveyed the area. The company is seeking a joint venture partner to development the project.

Salt Processing Code: 271 - This project proposal done by a local businessman and a landowner for the proposed project site for an interested investor to consider. A slat processing and manufacturing facility had been proposed a few capital and expertise required is substantial but the establishment of a salt processing and manufacturing plant will be advantageous since it will be the second salt factory to be established in the country. The company is seeking a joint venture partner to develop the salt processing project.

Rubber Plantation

Code 256 - The Gabina Oruba Lahara Plantation is owned by the Abau family through their family company, Lahara Plantations Limited. The Rubber Plantation has a land area of 316.059 hectares of which 80 plus hectares are planted with matured rubber trees. The plantation is located on portion 392 of Abau Milinch, Domara, and Cape Rodney, in the land is an Agriculture Lease area of which the title is held by the Abau Family through their company, Lahara Plantation Limited. The company is seeking a development partner to partner on a joint venture basis to revive, expand and manage the plantation and market rubber.



Fisheries Code 506 - Coral Sea Delights Limited is 100% nationally owned and registered PNG company. The company was registered for the purpose of Fisheries Developments, Fish Processing, Fish Farming and Fish Marketing. The company was granted a fishing license by the National Fisheries Authorities in May 2003. Some of the products that the company has for exports include dried sea products of beche-de-mer, shark fins, shells and salt-water crocodile and meat.

Coffee Code 274 - Roteps Coffee Exports Limited will mainly focus on exporting of processed coffee beans to international markets. It will also look at supplying the domestic market by selling local processing companies that supply markets. The proponents are aware of the major suppliers to this market and complete directly against them would be disastrous for the company. The strategy to enter this competitive market place, therefore, is enter into commercial arrangement with an existing supplier of the same commodity. This strategy would ensure a readily available market for the product through the existing supplier. The arrangements also have an added advantage of cost reduction to the company in areas of marketing campaigns and distribution. The company is seeking joint venture partner in terms of technical expertise to assist with their business.

OIL PALM Code: 299 - Matawat Oil Palm Limited is a joint venture arrangement would operate the nucleus system where the main activities would be managed by a management company and in the process would take the company to take over. The company is also aiming to expand oil palm business operations with a possibility of the establishing a mill that also produces crude oil palm and further into bio-fuel production. The company is looking at the expansion area of about over 6000 hectares to undetake this operation. The Matawat Oil Palm Development Limited through a joint venture aim to operate the nucleus agro model of oil palm development to develop the three components of the project. The company is seeking a joint venture partner.

Fisheries Code 409 - Bay Fish Limited is locally owned entity embarking on the local fishery focusing on working closely with the local resources owners to impart positively on their livelihoods and being successful as a local business. Primarily to export beche-de-mer, trochus shell and shark fin from the province, with plans to venture into trialing both domestic supply of reef and pelagic fish species domestically before exports. The company is seeking a joint venture partner to assist with them in the project.

Code 290 - The Bechdemer Project was initiated by a local businessman through his company "U75 Exports Ltd" and his interest is in buying locally and exporting bechdemer to china, the larget market for bechdemer.

Plant Manufacturing Code 253 - Weltec (PNG) Limited is seeking a joint venture partner or investor to assist on general technical expertise on how to commence business. Currently on steel fabrication and source funding to start plant manufacturing.

Timber sawmilling & processing

Code 267 - Terry Bush Company is involved in the tour guide business as well as sawmilling in the Brahman area on the border of Eastern Highlands and Madang Provinces.

The site is also a tourist destination for trekking and bush walking where tour guide services are provided by the company.

Milne Bay Shrimp project

Code 266 - The purpose of the project is to develop large scale commercial tiger prawn farming for processing to export to the Asian market, especially the Japanese market.

The proposal aims to secure a potential financier or a Joint-venture Partner to assist the company to establish capital works to commence operations. The Milne Bay Shrimp Farm Limited is aiming to secure US$20 million from the potential Joint Venture Partner company to assist establish the commencement of the project.
